While reading is a requirement for any writer, what we read makes a difference to how we see our own writing. I judge books in several contests and while there are some good finds, there are also some duds, to be honest, and mostly self-published work that didn’t go through a thorough review, revision, and editing process. My solution to having to read these books is to find the latest Pulitzer Prize, Nobel Prize, Booker Prize, etc., winner, and read their books. To that end, coming soon will be a discussion on Jenny Erpenbeck’s Booker Prize winner: Kairos, as well as a good look at Nobel Prize winner Jon Fosse’s three novel collection: Septology. More later.
